Further improvements needed: reporting of results on ClinicalTrials.gov

A study reported in the New England Journal of Medicine in March found that “despite ethical mandates, statutory obligations, and considerable societal pressure, most trials that were funded by the NIH or other government or academic institutions and were subject to FDAAA provisions have yet to report results at ClinicalTrials.gov”.

The study also found that industry-funded trials adhered to legal obligations more often than did trials funded by the NIH or other government or academic institutions.

However, all bodies – including industry – performed poorly with respect to ethical obligations for transparency.
